Review:
Ferraro has a lovely, chilled poolside vibe, gorgeous views and live guitar music in the evenings, as well as good-quality Italian food and lunchtime salads and smoothies.
When we went for lunch, the seafood Cobb salad was particularly good, although the Italian chopped salad with fish also had plenty of flavour and went well with a glass of white wine. The pineapple tart is a good choice for dessert. The Ahi tuna wrap is really good but a little too big – I’m not sure how anyone would finish all of it. If you want a soft drink, the mango madness smoothie is basically perfect, or the pineapple lemonade is good for a lighter option.
At dinnertime, they made a few small mistakes with not bringing the drinks list or bread basket until we asked for it, but you can’t really bring yourself to care when you’re in Hawaii and have probably been drunk since lunchtime. They also had a good deal on bottles of wine ordered after 8pm (they were half price) so we went for an Amarone del Valpolicella Masi from 2011.
The starters were tomato and burrata, and fried calamari – both good but enormous, as were the mains of pappardelle lamb ragu and pesto primavera. We shared the chocolate ‘budino’ for dessert, which was served with salted caramel ice cream and hazelnuts with a hot chocolate sauce poured over the chocolate wafer on the top and dissolving the fancy gold leaf garnish. With our peppermint teas we got bonus lemon almond cookies which were great (but frankly if I’d known we would get a bonus dessert I wouldn’t have ordered one after the enormous mains).
