Hotel Florence is an example of a lovely rustic restaurant in Lake Como that isn’t posh or pretentious, but still gives you great food and incredible views of the lapping lake at night. It sits under trellises and lit-up trees and presents cool wine decanters and traditional food.
My partner Owl and I shared a bottle of red 2010 Brunello di Montalcino, which was rich, fruity and medium-bodied. We started with the restaurant’s “traditional” starter of tuna tartare, eel, seafood and edible flowers, and raw ham and avocado. Our mains were chestnut and black truffle risotto with celery, and pumpkin tortellini with pistachio cream and white fish sauce. My dessert was the star of the meal for me – an elderflower creme brûlée with strawberries, black cherry and chocolate ice cream, although my partner Owl’s pears with chocolate ice cream and vanilla cream on a chocolate crumble base also looked very appealing.
Hotel Florence is a good choice if you are in Bellagio for dinner and have the time to sit and gaze out on the wonderful lake while munching on traditional Italian dishes.
