When I visited: 2013
Location: London, Covent Garden
Team: Marcellin Marc (Head Chef), Daniel Kapp (maitre d’), Yuri Gualeni (Head Sommelier)
Rating in the Michelin Guide: Recommended
What to wear: Men – jeans or nice trousers and a shirt; women – jeans and a smart top or a smart dress
Ambience: Intimate, romantic, log fire
Course of the meal: Oven Baked Globe Artichoke & Tomme Brulée
If I could change one thing: Better a la carte menu
Review:
I visited this restaurant with my partner Owl partly because it was recommended in the Michelin Guide as being particularly romantic, and certainly its conservatory and log fire add to the atmosphere. We also visited it with friends afterwards and I would probably say it is better for dates. It also has a good value pre-theatre menu and serves up nicely done posh European food.
It probably deserves its ‘recommended’ rating in the Michelin Guide but I wouldn’t put it any higher due to the slight inconsistency in quality of food and service that I noticed between the first and second times we visited. Still, it’s a good solid choice if you’re near Covent Garden and looking for a quick and high-quality pre-theatre dinner.
